Item Description

The Official Sega Mega Drive II (released as the Genesis II in North America) is a 16-bit fourth-generation home video game console launched by Sega in 1993. It is a more compact, lightweight redesign of the original Mega Drive, featuring a smaller mainboard, no headphone jack, and a 9-pin mini-DIN AV-out port that supports stereo sound. Technical Specifications CPU: Motorola 68000 (16-bit) running at 7.67 MHz (PAL) / 7.61 MHz (NTSC). Sub-CPU: Zilog Z80 (8-bit) running at 3.58 MHz (used for sound processing and Master System compatibility). RAM: 64 KB Main RAM, 64 KB Video RAM, 8 KB Audio RAM. Graphics: Dedicated VDP (Video Display Processor) with 512-color palette, capable of displaying 64 colors simultaneously. Resolution: 320x224 pixels (standard). Sprites: Up to 80 on-screen, 20 per scanline. Sound: Yamaha YM2612 FM chip (6 channels) + Texas Instruments SN76489 PSG chip (4 channels). Connectivity: Stereo AV port, RF Out, 2x 9-pin controller ports. Dimensions: Approximately 219mm x 213mm x 40mm. Key Features Updated Design: Smaller, rounded "bio" design compared to the original model. Compact Controller: Frequently bundled with a 6-button controller for enhanced compatibility with fighting games, though it supports 3-button controllers. Compatibility: Compatible with almost all original Mega Drive cartridges and accessories, including the Sega CD and 32X, though some, like the original Mega CD, require different spacers. Audio/Video: The A/V port on the back replaced the front headphone jack to provide stereo sound directly to the TV. Note: The Sega Mega Drive II generally requires a 9V DC 1.2A power supply, which is different from the original Model 1.
